Week 8 Preview
We are now reaching near the end of the regular season, with this being the final week of regular season games in Illinois. For most teams, we have seen what they are capable of. For others, this is really their last chance to make a statement and get a good playoff spot. This week, we have some more high quality matchups. Here are some of the ones to look out for this week:
#3 CBC (4-3) @ #5 (SS) Cardinal Ritter (3-4)
After a solid bounceback victory this past week against Chaminade, the Cadets will make the drive into the city to face the Cardinal Ritter Lions. Against St. Louis opponents, the Cadet offense has been unstoppable, putting up an average of 48 points per game. On the other hand, the Ritter Lions have rallied back-to-back wins after a rough 1-4 start. With games against CBC and Jackson to finish their absolute gauntlet of a schedule, a home victory here against the Cadets would be huge for the Ritter program.
#1 East St. Louis (7-1) @ Naperville North (7-1)
It has been awhile since we have talked about the East St. Louis Flyers, but not because they haven’t been active. In fact, quite the opposite. The Flyers are on an incredible streak right now. They have not allowed a single point in 4 games. They have absolutely mauled their regional opponents, giving them a total point differential of 284-6 in the past games. You read that correctly. 284 points in 5 games. That is an average of 57 points per game. Naperville North comes into this game 7-1 with some impressive wins, so maybe it is time for the Flyers to face a challenge.
#2 De Smet (6-1) @ #1 (SS) St. Mary’s (5-2)
After an incredible comeback win this past Saturday against powerhouse St. Pius X (KC), the Spartans of De Smet look to keep that rolling this week against the hot St. Mary’s Dragons. A victory here for the Spartans would bring them one step closer to a #1 district seeding. Can the Dragons prevent that from happening and get one of the biggest upsets of the year? We will see Friday night.
Morris (8-0) @ #3 (SS) Cahokia (6-2)
After 4 consecutive dominant wins, the Cahokia Comanches look to spoil the undefeated season of the Morris Warriors. The Comanches have scored an average of 49 points per game in their previous 4 wins, while also in their previous 4 games the Morris Warriors have scored an average of 51 PPG. The name of this game is defense. The team that can manage to get a few stops might as well be the team that crawls out of this game with a victory.
Rockwood Summit (4-3) @ #8 Kirkwood (5-1)
With a strong victory this past weekend against Fox, the Kirkwood Pioneers look to keep their season rolling this week when they host the Summit Falcons. The only team that has got in their way so far this year were the Eureka Wildcats. The Summit Falcons, with 2 back-to-back strong wins, would love to add their name to that list.
Other Notable Matchups:
Lift for Life (2-5) @ #9 Chaminade (4-3)
Hillsboro (6-1) @ Farmington (6-1)
Lafayette (3-4) @ #5 Eureka (5-2)
#10 Ritenour (5-2) @ Seckman (6-1)
Marquette (4-3) @ Lindbergh (3-4)
