Week 6 Preview
It is now Week 6. At this point, we have seen what a lot of teams are made of. For some teams, it is time to continue to take care of business in their conferences, while for others it is time to get things going and make a playoff push. Regardless of their situation, we are going to many high quality matchups against the teams of St. Louis this week.
#3 De Smet (4-1) @ #5 SLUH (4-1)
This Friday night will be another night the MCC goes to battle against each other. At 6 PM in St. Louis, the SLUH Jr. Bills will be hosting the De Smet Spartans. Both teams enter this game 4-1 with very strong resumes, with each of their one loss being to the same team (by a similar margin), CBC. SLUH, led by QB Pat Stein, looks to get an incredibly impressive win that would solidify the Jr. Bills as one of the top programs in the area. De Smet, however, coming off of 2 dominating MCC victories, looks to add a third.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (2-4) @ #2 CBC (3-2)
Looking to defend their home turf against another out of town opponent this week are the CBC Cadets. After a heart-breaking 1 point out-of-town loss last week, the Cadets are looking to make things right this week against the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles out of Georgia. The Cadets look to get to 4-2 on the season, which given their schedule, is very impressive.
Naperville Central (3-3) @ #5 (SS) Cardinal Ritter (1-4)
Speaking of tough schedules, the Cardinal Ritter Lions continue their gauntlet of a schedule against the Naperville Central Redhawks. The Lions look to break their 4 game losing streak tonight on their home turf. But again, their 1-4 record is incredibly deceiving. If the Ritter offense can get going, I find it will be very difficult for the Redhawks to stop them.
#6 (SS) Lift for Life (2-3) @ #2 (SS) St. Mary’s (3-2)
Starting off our competition this week tonight, the Hawks of Lift for Life will not be traveling far as they will be facing up against the Dragons of St. Mary’s. Coming off a strong bounceback away victory against Hayden Catholic (KS), the Dragons would love to get another quality victory on the board against Lift for Life. The Hawks, on the other hand, would love to get back to .500 against a very good St. Mary’s squad.
#8 (SS) Freeburg (5-1) @ #1 (SS) Breese Central (6-0)
Across the river, 2 of the highest ranked small schools in the area will be facing off in one of our prime Illinois matchups of the year. Breese Central, the #1 small school in the area, led by QB Owen Kehrer, enters this game undefeated with demanding wins against almost all of their opponents. The Midgets seek to end that streak Friday night. Led by RB Cooper Kisgen, Freeburg enters 5-1 and #8 in our small school rankings. If you are a fan of either of these teams, this is going to be the game to watch.
Other Notable Matchups:
Marquette (3-2) @ #6 Eureka (4-1)
Lindbergh (2-3) @ #9 Kirkwood (3-1)
#10 (SS) Westminster (4-1) @ Lutheran North (1-3)
O’Fallon (3-3) @ Edwardsville (2-4)
#10 Chaminade (3-2) @ Vianney (2-3)
